Coming back from the ISE 2019 exhibition from beautiful Amsterdam to our client’s projects and their development needs. Back to Greece to our beautiful sunshined and lighted country where a new software application might define the future of Parliamentary Voting.
I thought it might be useful to pick out some highlights about electronic voting devices and solutions for parliaments and conferences – but that is something of a challenge. ISE has grown in importance over the years and become the world’s largest exhibition of AV technology.
Now, to be fair to the salespeople, technology experts, and marketers that I met and their PR evangelists, many of them were genuinely excited about their particular developments or at least it seemed that way – it is famously said that the key thing in life is to be able to fake sincerity!
So, not much that was really exciting. That isn’t to say there weren’t some good electronic voting solutions. Bosch showing some of Dicentis Multimedia devices, these outstanding IP devices having professional high-quality mics and are open for running 3rd parties Android applications. Worth to mention that 300 Dicentis Devices running eVoting Application are successfully operating in Hellenic Parliament.
We are facing the dawn of electronic voting in conferences and parliaments. In ISE 2019 a lot of devices and solutions were presented but I think that more steps are needed for getting closer to efficient and secure electronic voting solutions with features such as:
- Immediate system restore, in case a problem occurs
- Immediate recovery of voting stage
- Seamless microphones operation
- Encrypting of votes
However, as a long-time professional and observer of the IT industry and specifically in the software scene, I would have to say that there was little of great importance in terms of new software-based technologies at the event. Hopefully, next year at ISE 2020 the last in Amsterdam as the event will move to Barcelona in 2021, we will see more smart IP whiteboards, 4k Wifi streaming solutions, and IP devices running eVotig Application!
